New Standards for Ladders and Step Ladders
January 2019 sees the introduction of the new EN131-2 pofessional and non-professional standards for ladders and step ladders. These replace the existing EN131, BS2037 Class 1 (Industrial) and BS2037 Class 3 (Domestic) standards, which are being withdrawn. The new standards include dimensional changes to inprove the stability of extension ladders. There are also changes to testing to improve strength and durability. Although the existing standards will no longer apply to ladders and stepladders, existing ladders and stepladders that are in good condition can continue to be used until replacement. Whether purchasing new, or replacing existing ladder, please ensure that you only purchase ladders that are certified to the new standards.
