New Sense About Science booklet: GM in Europe, it's not what you think

30th Oct 2014

MEPs are about to vote on the European Council’s proposal on allowing member states freedom to decide on the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops. The European Parliament’s Environment Committee has tabled amendments to the proposal which would destroy that compromise. These amendments will be voted on on Wednesday 5th November 2014.

In discussions around the Council’s proposal and these amendments GM has been continually presented as a corporate issue but this simplistic portrayal ignores its use in publicly funded research across Europe.

Sense About Science has produced GM in Europe, it’s not what you think which sets out 14 examples of public sector research across member states aimed at solving real challenges in agriculture.
