Calling all growers - are you passionate about potatoes? Then join Potato Council's team of Ambassadors!

19th Feb 2014

Potato Council is looking to recruit new members to join its team of Potato Ambassadors - growers who are keen to get involved in marketing activity and help spread the word that potatoes are healthy, versatile, easy-to-prepare and great value for money.

The Ambassador role is a two year appointment (starting in May 2014) and it shouldn’t take up more than a few days of a grower’s time over the course of a year. Any newly appointed Ambassadors will be media trained so that they are comfortable talking to the press.

Potato Council marketing manager, Kate Cox, said: “The Potato Ambassadors have become central to all of our marketing campaigns. Over the last few years they have spoken with local press and radio stations and even featured on national television to reinforce the positive messages about potatoes. We know that shoppers and the media respond well to hearing these kinds of messages directly from growers, which is why it is so important to have a team of willing volunteers on board.”

Matt Spanton, the current Potato Ambassador for the South East of England, said: “I would encourage any grower to get involved as an Ambassador as it gives you a chance to engage with the general public and communicate your passion for potatoes and their benefits. As for my business, it has made more people locally aware of the crop and its role, rather than viewing it as just another commodity item.”
