Title:

Partnering workshop -Maximising opportunities in industrial biotechnology: Focus on algae as a feedstock for products and processes

Where:

Edinburgh

Start Date:

Wednesday 5th September

Description:

Wednesday, 5 September 2012 from 09:30 to 16:30 (BST)

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

This is the second in a series of two Partnering Workshops to highlight the Sustainable chemical production through industrial biotechnology - Competition

Premise & Scope:

The Technology Strategy Board is to invest up to £2.75m in business models, feasibility studies and collaborative research and development projects in the field of industrial biotechnology (IB). Proposals should offer significant benefit in terms of sustainability and energy saving over existing petroleum-based approaches.

Workshop Objectives:

Co-organised by the Industrial Biotechnology and Algal Bioenergy Special Interest Groups, this workshop is aimed at not just those interested in putting together a proposal for this upcoming call, but those who wish to learn more about IB, and will:

-Provide an overview of the competition

-Opportunity to meet previous competition winners

-Provide a platform for new collaborations to be formed

Programme:

The workshop will include presentations from the Technology Strategy Board and previous winners of this competition who, along with KTN staff, will be on hand to offer advice and tips on making an application.

There are two sessions in this workshop – Session 1: Maximising opportunities in industrial biotechnology. This session will have a broad feedstock focus so anyone interested in IB generally is very welcome. Session 2: Focus on algae as a feedstock for IB products and processes. This is an opportunity to bring together the algal community, plus those considering using algae as a feedstock for their processes, to meet and network and spark new ideas and collaborations.

Focus on Algae:

With the increasing appetite for ‘green’ technologies there are massive opportunities ahead for the UK using both micro and macro algae as a sustainable feedstock for the production of chemicals & high value products for application in the fertilizer, personal care, cosmetic & nutrition sectors.

Make a pitch:

Make a 5 minute pitch and give your business or research interest a wider platform to attract new partners and help build new consortia. A limited number of slots are available in the first broadly-focused IB Session (morning) and the afternoon Focus on Algae' session. You will be asked during the registration process whether this is your intention.

Please note that information provided on line by those making pitches will be published in the delegate booklet for distribution.
